2009 Season – August 1, 2008 thru July

Charles "Charlie"
Saunders Memorial Tournament – August 9, 2008
The first Preseason event sponsored by SSJBA was a tournament dedicated to the memory of Charlie Saunders one of our past members from the Pensacola, FL association. The event was held at Brunswick Woodmere Lanes in Montgomery, AL on Saturday August 9, 2008 and was a one day event with $1500 in Scholarships (thanks to Charlie's father Frank). Before the Tournament started, everyone assembled for a meeting to spell out the methodology to be used for the 2009 SSJBATour.
The season will be conducted by continuing to utilize the three divisions, which have historically been; Minors with all bowlers entering with an average less than 165; Classic with all bowlers entering with an average greater than 164 and less than 185; and Masters with all bowlers entering with an average greater than 184. The change will be the point at which advancement shall occur. A bowler will advance from their entering division to the next divisional level once they have met one of two conditions.
They have been a Champion and achieved an average level of at least 5 pins above the upper average limit in their division (170 for Minors, 190 for Classic) OR they have maintained an average level of at least 10 pins above the upper average limit for at least two consecutive tournaments without a Championship (175 for Minors, 195 for Classic). All 2008 members will be reclassified to the division they would have achieved should these advancement rules have been in effect for prior seasons.
This having been accomplished, all events for which, the entire field of participants does not consist of at least 7 contestants for any one division OR the entire field consists of more than 50% of participants in a single division; shall be conducted as a Draft event. These matters being determined, the meeting also served as the issuance event for all the 300 and 800 rings earned since the beginning of the 2007 season. There were 20 rings issued and another three were yet to be delivered. The rings are from the Jostens ring company and are fabulous awards, which have SSJBA giving a quality award for these Honor scores. The 299 and 298 scores were given a scholarship and have the opportunity to purchase a ring as well. A purchased 298 ring was issued to David Rock as well. For a full list of all Ring awardees observe the following link Individual .
Saunders Memorial had a Draft 1 with the eighteen (18) top average bowlers and a Draft 2 with the next eighteen (18) bowlers by average and Draft 3 with the final six (6) bowlers by average. Links in Red background area reflect the Qualifying round results for all drafts.
